Lauren Slater is a psychotherapist and writer. She has received awards including a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and a Knight Science Journalism fellowship at MIT; her work has also appeared in The Best American Essays. She is the author of nine books, including, most recently, Blue Dreams: The Science and the Story of the Drugs that Changed Our Minds and Playing House: Notes of a Reluctant Mother.
