"The Night": A Reading & Launch Party

Saturday, Sept. 10
7:30 p.m.

Irma Freeman Center for the Imagination 5006 Penn Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15224

Please help us celebrate the creation of new art and writing in and about Pittsburgh! Join us as we toast the publication of a new issue of Creative Nonfiction and the winners of "The Night," an essay writing competition co-sponsored by CNF and The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.

This event will feature readings by the two prizewinners, Bud Shaw and J.C. Hallman. Shaw is a distinguished transplant surgeon who worked under Dr. Thomas Starzl as a surgical fellow at the University of Pittsburgh during the early 1980's, when the world-renowned doctor was pioneering techniques to perform liver transplantation surgery, then still considered experimental. Hallman studied creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh and is the author of three books of nonfiction and one collection of short stories.

On display in the gallery will be original illustrations by Pittsburgh artist Seth Clark, whose work for our summer issue, Creative Nonfiction #42, was funded by a Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative grant.

Whole Foods and other local businesses will provide food and drink, and the first 100 guests will receive complimentary copies of Creative Nonfiction #42.
