The 2008 Creative Nonfiction Writers' Conference will offer engaging speakers, writing workshops, panel discussions, readings and networking. The theme, Writing about Science and Technology, is inspired by CNF's long-time home, a city whose social and economic life has always been intertwined with scientific discovery and technological innovation.
Featured events will include an evening with Lawrence Krauss, bestselling author of The Physics of Star Trek, and a discussion about contemporary science writing with Corey Powell (Discover), Virginia Morell (Science and National Geographic) and CNF's Lee Gutkind. In addition, Creative Nonfiction will launch a collection of new essays about Pittsburgh by emerging writers at a special American Shorts Reading Series program.
A series of intensive writing workshops will also be offered. Topics include research and writing about science and technology, crafting book proposals and query letters, writing dialogue, developing characters, and much more. Manuscript review workshops are also available.
Special conference rates are available on reservations placed by September 21 for a limited number of rooms at Residence Inn by Marriott Pittsburgh University/Medical Center, located at 3896 Bigelow Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
Rooms can be booked online using group code CNFCNFA or CNFCNFB. Reservations may also be made by calling the hotel directly: 412.621.2200 or 1.800.513.9766. Be sure to ask for the Creative Nonfiction block rate.
