LEE GUTKIND TO BE A GUEST ON THE DAILY SHOW!

That's right, set your TiVo and grab the popcorn, Creative Nonfiction's founder and editor will be Jon Stewart's guest on The Daily Show on Monday, May 7th, to talk about his new book, Almost Human: Making Robots Think. Before you laugh, consider this: The New York Times recently observed that The Daily Show has become one of the "most reliable venues for promoting weighty books." We don't know what's going to happen on air, but you won't want to miss it! Lee was also recently interviewed by Jason Margolis for a BBC piece called "Robot Report." Follow this link to hear the full story:

And Lee was the subject of an article titled "A Life of Observation" by Eric Parker for the website Fresno Famous. To read the article, click on the link:

ISSUE 31 HOT OFF THE PRESS

Peer into the crystal ball and glimpse the future of literature in our latest issue of Creative Nonfiction: Imagining the Future. Humorous, optimistic and nostalgic, Issue 31 gives voice to a range of unique predictions about the book and the writer's role into the 21st century. From the outlandish--jacks in our heads to download books--to the prescient-- the irreplaceable feel of a book page--writers imagine how literature will fit into a technology-hungry world. The issue includes engaging essays by Dinty W. Moore, editor of Brevity, George Gibson, publisher of Walker & Company and Robin Hemley, Director of the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa. Issue 31 also includes six beautiful and thought-provoking illustrations by Little Kelpie, a creative studio in Pittsburgh. Issue 31 hits the stands mid-May.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR THE SILENCE KILLS ESSAY COMPETITION

Congratulations to Merilee D. Karr who won first prize for her essay "Missing" and to runners up Pamela Skjolsvik for "You Have the Right to Remain Silent," Tamara Dean for "Saving My Breath," and Grace Talusan for "Foreign Bodies." The Jewish Healthcare Foundation is awarding prizes of $1,000 for the first place essay and $500 for the three finalists. Silence Kills: Speaking Out and Saving Lives is a collection of a dozen essays from patients and their caregivers addressing the devastating human results that can occur from a lack of communication and understanding among those in the health care profession. Silence Kills will be Issue 33 of Creative Nonfiction and will also be published as a book by Southern Methodist University Press this fall.
