Bret Lott

Bret Lott is the author of fourteen books. “On Za’atar” is from his forthcoming collection, Cherries on the Golan, Olives in Jerusalem, about food and hope and the Holy Land. His first appearance in Creative Nonfiction occurred in the last century, with issue number 5. He has spoken on Flannery O’Connor at the White House, served as editor and director of the Southern Review from 2004 to 2007, and was a member of the National Council on the Arts for seven years. Since 1986, except for a three-year stint at Louisiana State University, he has taught at the College of Charleston, where he served as nonfiction editor of Crazyhorse for fourteen years. He and his wife, Melanie, live in beautiful Hollywood, South Carolina.​
