C.K. Williams' "Flesh and Blood" (1987) won the National Book Critics Circle Award for poetry; it and "The Vigil" (1997) were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. "Repair" (1999) was nominated for the National Book Award. Farrar, Straus & Giroux, who published them, also will soon release "Misgivings," from which these excerpts were taken. Williams is professor of English at George Mason University and lives part of the year in Paris.
