Faith Adiele

Faith Adiele won the Millennium Award from Creative Nonfiction for this essay. She is the daughter of a Scandinavian-American mother and Nigerian father, was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and has lived in Southeast Asia and West Africa. Her nonfiction has appeared in Ms. Magazine, Transition, Ploughshares, Fourth Genre and numerous anthologies. Her honors include designation as a PEN New England Emerging Writer, the Willard R. Espy Award in Nonfiction, the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Award in Fiction, and fellowships from Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony and the Banff Center for the Arts. She lives in Iowa City.
